Planning & Creating text for posters
Posters are pieces of paper designed to be attached to a wall or another vertical surface. Most of them include textual and graphic elements. Posters are used as eye-catchers or / and to convey information. They are made for different purposes like advertising, propaganda, protest and the communication of a message. There are also different types of posters e.g. Fan-, movie- and event posters.
The first posters appeared around 1870 when the printing techniques (e.g. color lithography) emerged.
Here you can see a poster from 1872 containig only text.

Posters in the classroom
Pupils should be familiar with all kinds of posters (e.g. grammar- and alphabet posters, numeracy and scientific tables) because they can be found in most classrooms. As posters are easily made, pupils can create some by themselves. In addition posters can also be used to present the pupil's products in the course of a project week.
Here are some rules for poster design:
1. Maximise readability
2. The structure should be clear and logical
3. Use illustrative elements
4. Use an eye-catcher (if appropriate)
5. Minimize textual amount
6. Use position and size for importance of elements
7. Check the quality of the elements
8. Check relationship of elements
